52 {Books} in 52: TThe Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest

Note: This is the one of the six book posts for today. For my thoughts on all the books I've read go here.

If I thought the second book of Steig Larsson's trilogy was good then I was not prepared for how great his last book, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest, would be. Book three picks up right where book two ends and is filled with more intrigue, surprise, and scandal. Larsson has a true gift when it comes to telling a compelling story; so many layers are penetrated and even more secrets are exposed. Almost all the questions you had from book two are answered.  Simply put, the book is an intellectual thriller that will constantly keep you on your toes and make you exclaim "oh no he didn't!" over and over again.

The story of Lisbeth and Mikael continues but this time it is Mikael who comes to the rescue. Lisbeth is locked away but still able to put her talents to use. Even though the book is about the deprivation of her most fundamental rights you never quite feel sorry for Lisbeth. You know she is a fighter and will not go out without leaving some kind of impression. You do, however, get to see Lisbeth transform into a person better capable of handling friendships. As with the other two books there are side stories but the end result is that you know who trusts who and what debts have been payed off.

This book is a fantastic read for the conspiracy theorist in all of us. It is so well written and thought out that it truly makes one feel sorry for the end of the Salander-Blomvkist story because Larsson is not around to discuss or continue the story.
